The Hong Kong Prize (hk Prize) is an exciting scientific award that provides young scientists with an exceptional opportunity to develop their professional skills while exploring one of the world’s leading science hubs. The winner will receive both a monetary prize as well as access to one or more Hong Kong research facilities for six months after being named as winner.
This year marks the second time the Hong Kong Prize is being presented. This program was initiated by friends and colleagues of Dr. John D. Young to acknowledge his contribution to Hong Kong history. An expert panel will select winners using criteria including relevance of theme, systematic use of materials collected for analysis, objectivity in interpretation of data analyzed objectively citation of bibliographies/footnotes as well as overall quality assessment.
The winning team will have the chance to visit some of China and Hong Kong’s premier research institutions and experience first-hand the vibrant scientific atmosphere present here. Additionally, HK Prize winner will present their work at Asia Science Conference (ASC), meeting academics from across the globe.
Hong Kong science and technology is at the forefront of global innovation, and its government is dedicated to nurturing future scientists and entrepreneurs. This commitment was evidenced in their policy address released last month which highlighted the need to equip Hong Kong youth for tomorrow’s challenges by turning our special administrative region into an international innovation and technology hub with world-class postsecondary education facilities.
At this crucial juncture, the Hong Kong Prize provides an essential platform to help young scientific talent realize their full potential, so I look forward to attending this year’s ceremony and supporting such an outstanding cause. Government is fully supportive of this great prize and I hope I’m there as well!
Once more, let us focus on those of us in the know – the ones with an ability to identify potential threats or opportunities and make sound, well-considered decisions about them. We would like to express our thanks and appreciation for the government’s continued support of the Hong Kong Prize, and are confident it will inspire more students in our city to become engaged with science – particularly fields such as artificial intelligence/robotics, life/health science, new materials/energy research and advanced manufacturing. We expect that the Hong Kong Prize will assist in strengthening Hong Kong’s competitive edge in global economies and contribute to its ongoing economic development. Thank you to the organizers, judges and supporters of the Hong Kong Prize for all of their efforts in organizing this event! We pledge our continued hard work together in serving our city; together we can reach our goals! Best wishes to everyone involved!
