What is the HK Prize?

The Hong Kong Prize competition provides young people an opportunity to display their skills in different areas. If successful in winning, applicants can win big money and build up a great reputation within their field. It is essential that applicants read over all rules and regulations carefully prior to applying – the HK Prize competition has strict criteria which must be fulfilled for success! This year’s Hong Kong Prize nominations featured activists working for freedom and democracy – some even facing arrest or jail time as they advocate; as well as community service initiatives like providing shelter to homeless adults. Winners were chosen based on their courage in standing up for values they believed in while contributing to bettering society as a whole. Sameen Agha from Pakistan won first prize at HK Prize 2024 with her marble sculpture “A Home Is a Terrible Place to Love.” Her piece captures human suffering by depicting an apparently decaying home; critics praised Agha for this achievement. The Hong Kong Prize for Young Fellows of the Academy recognizes excellence in research conducted by young Fellows of the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine. The prize aims to encourage more young Academy members to pursue research related to clinical practice and healthcare research, as well as promote an exchange of knowledge between Hong Kong scholars and their counterparts from mainland China regarding health-related humanities or social science topics. It’s open to any Fellow who was awarded their Academy Fellowship within 10 years regardless of specialty or field of research. BOCHK SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION PRIZE is an annual merit-based award designed to recognize outstanding scientists and research teams residing in Hong Kong or the Greater Bay Area (Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao). Individuals or research-related institutions who have made outstanding scientific achievements will receive this prize, in three categories – Life & Health; New Materials & New Energy; and Advanced Manufacturing; with up to five persons or teams receiving awards per category. The HK Prize will feature a rotating exhibition held at sister hotel The Hari London and London-based art gallery A Space for Art, along with an award night and charitable auction, with proceeds donated to Justice Centre Hong Kong to assist displaced refugees living in Hong Kong. This year’s theme is Our Changing World.
