Swimming is one of the easiest and most enjoyable ways to stay physically fit and hydrated while simultaneously socializing, relaxing and relieving stress. Unfortunately, Hong Kong’s intense heat can make swimming uncomfortable; fortunately there are numerous pools offering cool relief from its scorching temperatures.
Public pools are operated by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), who charge an entry fee to help fund maintenance and improvements. Furthermore, those 60 years or older, between 3-13 years old or full-time students enjoy discounted rates at certain public swimming pools.
Of LCSD’s 22 public pools, some stand out in terms of facilities and location. Here are five that stand out as some of the finest Hong Kong has to offer.
Victoria Park Swimming Pool is one of Hong Kong’s most renowned public pools, providing locals a convenient spot to relax or socialize during their swim sessions and spend time with friends. Open from 6:30am to 10pm daily, Victoria Park Swimming Pool features a 50m indoor pool as well as an impressive spectator stand that seats 2,500 spectators – not forgetting its impressive water slide that stands nine metres tall with speeds up to 45km per hour!
This destination pool is a favorite with both families and kids thanks to its extensive waterslides and activities, including pirate ship-themed waterslides. Families will especially love its large outdoor kid lagoon with an aqua tunnel, water shooters, and slides!
Tsing Yi’s main pool is an idyllic retreat set amidst lush greenery. Although smaller than some other pools, this one still boasts impressive facilities, including teaching pools, diving pools and one designed specifically for toddlers. There are also waterfalls and water installations such as mushroom and tree-shaped fountains which children are sure to adore.
This luxurious pool provides the ideal place for admiring the city skyline while swimming. Situated right in Admiralty, it’s easy to become entranced by its stunning views of skyscrapers while taking a dip. After your swim session is done, why not relax at one of its three al fresco Fish Bar and Pool Lounge locations before returning for lunch or snacks afterwards?
